Storyline - Closure

E-mail Print PDF

This is a new storyline I'm running in Toxia that is expected to end sometime in January.

Marye Brentley comes to Toxia, an angel who remembers her former life as an actress except for the circumstances of her tragic death.  Unlike many who come to Toxia with permanent memory-loss, it is her mission to discover what happened.  What secrets will her death unviel and who is trying to stop her from discovering it?

What -

This is a blog of my experiments in role playing.  In here will contain both articles about my thoughts on role play, my reviews of places to role play, and possibly some character journals.

Where -

My "home" and where I began role playing started out in Toxia on Second Life.  For its ups and downs it is still where I am most active, often using it as a sandbox to experiment with ways to promote role play in an environment which is amblivant to such.  However, I am constantly exploring other areas both in Second Life, and MMOs such as AION, DDO, GW, and WoW.  As I've haven't discovered a role play environment that has been as supportive as MxO, I am constantly hoping around in search for such an elusive environment once again.

How -

I typically incorporate the permadeath play style in making disposable characters.  That is under most circumstances when they die once, I delete the character and reroll.  If I'm surveying the game's role play atmosphere and feel I have sampled enough role play interaction, I'll reroll onto another RP server or faction.  Among other things, this permadeath system allows me to keep my characters fresh, sample a variety of RP environments, and work on what I believe is the most difficult aspect of role play -- that is getting started.

Toxia however is a special case, after leaving for some time to explore WoW RP, my friends asked that I come back and help with developing an environment that tends to focus more on combat into an exciting role play environment.  Here I work on developing creative story lines that run for about 2-3 months.  The characters I create for those story lines live and die with the story.  Then I have the ever present Pontifex who runs a city tabliod to keep people informed of various role play events, aptly named the SALIGIA.

-RIGHTS RESTRICTED-
by OF/22433

As accounted by several of this city, the church was always thought of as a public building.  People could come and go as they please, just as they could in the Haven.  One would think that the Church would be no different as a Church is considered a place of reflection, a place for prayer, worship, gathering for Godliness of all creatures.  It seems that the city has worn its welcome on the Righteous however.  You now have to be a very important person to even set foot inside.

Its common knowledge at this point that the Shadows frequently find themselves in the Church, seeming to be more often than their own Pit nowadays... but they are there to seek religion, seek help, something one would figure the Righteous would be more than happy to provide.  I guess the Shadows aren't asking correctly as they've been banned several times from the Church.

-FULL MOON NEVER SETS FOR THE PACK-
By Pontifex Jenvieve

Each month the full moon changes the laws of the street.  Bringing fear to some and a cause to celebrate to others.  While the city's usual response is to bolt all the doors and let the night of chaos blow over, many are angered by the Pack's increasingly violent behavior during the rest of the month.  Just a few weeks prior to the September moon, two women of the Righteous were viciously attacked by a Pack wolf.  The Righteous, long known for the reputation of protecting the helpless, were not about to let this off season assault to go unaddressed.  However, diplomatically resolving such issues is difficult when the other party is both uncivilized and intelligent.  While some felt that justice should be met directly with the offender, others were undoubtedly worried about the Wotan, the Pack leader's reaction would be.

Figuring that the feared leader was more sensible than others said, I decided to get Wotan's opinion straight from the wolf's maw as it were.  Though, when asked on how to handle such matters involving the Pack, Wotan's response was "food shouldn't interfere with the Hunt."  His declaration needs little interpretation and confirms what many have suspected all along that left unchecked, the Pack will expand their terror to include the entire month.  The Righteous on the other hand, while originally sought Cammie of the Pack for questioning about the two attacks, have since retracted their position and decided instead to pray for her.  Either this is a result of their saintly hearts or fear of being ripped to shreds, one can only speculate.
